Meet Dr. Loretta A. Helms

President, ELL Professional Services 


“I have had almost 30 years of experience in the field of Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (T.E.S.O.L.) as a classroom teacher, district and regional director of English language learner (ELL) programs, consultant, and professional developer. Currently, I am the president of ELL Professional Services.


I provide whole-school professional development for New York City public and private schools. As an approved-New York State Education Department Continuing Teacher and Leader Education (CTLE) sponsor, I provide online credit-bearing classes that will afford school leaders and teachers the opportunity to work towards earning the mandated 100 hours of CTLE credit required ever five years.


As an adjunct assistant professor at Lehman College, Bronx, New York, I am assigned to the Early Childhood and Childhood Department where I supervise interns who are enrolled in the Supervised Student Teaching Internship. At Pace University, New York, New York, I am a clinical supervisor  for  student teachers who are enrolled in the York City Teaching Fellows Program.


My educational background includes an Ed.D. in International Educational Development with a concentration in curriculum development, an Ed.M and a M.A. in TESOL, all from Teachers College, Columbia University, New York, NY. My post-graduate work includes a certificate in Quality Teaching for English Learners from WestEd, San Francisco, California and a professional diploma in School Administration and Supervision from Mercy College, Dobbs Ferry, New York.”
